Cute Easy Hairstyle for Girls: Flat Rolling Twists and Braid Out

Cute Hairstyle for Girls

Hairstyles for Girls

I wanted to take a break from the wash and go posts to show you all an easy style we did recently with flat twists or rolling twists as they are also called. Miss D wore this style for 5 days, 3 days with the 2 braids in the back and 2 days with the braid out. I used Bee Mine Curly Butter for the twists and CUSH Crème de Palm for the braid/braid out, I was curious to see how the CUSH would work for that.

Inspired Style: Flat Twists and Rose Bun Hairstyle

Welcome to our first Inspired Style posting, where we find styles that are creative and inspiring and recreate them in our own way.

This style was inspired by this photo I saw on Hydratherma Naturals

Flat Twists and Rose Bun hairstyle

I did my own variation of this style by doing 3 rolling/flat twists on the side, then I put the rest of her hair into a pony tail off the other side in the back. I did about six 2 strand twists and then pinned them up into a bun. I used a different product, that is new to us and that review will be coming soon! :) *Update read the review on the WonderCurl Products we used for this style*

I have recently had the oppurtunity to review a couple products from Created by Nature.

-Aminah Lawson, Creator of Created by Nature: Hair n Body

The products:

Chinara’s Hair N Body Wash
This Castile based cleanser, is great for daily use because it is non-drying. The essential oils found in this wash are great to help deep cleanse and stimulate growth for a head of healthy hair and healthy skin. This Shampoo comes in two formulas, Oily/normal (Tea Tree) and normal/dry (Lavender)

Price: .00 8oz

Jaja’s Hair N Body Pomade
This pomade is a combination of whipped Shea butter ,Vegetable based oils and essential oils. Use it as a body moisturizer, hairdressing or to retwist locs. Pomade is available in 8 fragrances: Almond, Honeysuckle, Lemongrass, Sweet Orange, Lavender/Vanilla,Sandalwood/Vanilla, Nag Champa, and Spicey Vanilla. NOT A FAN OF FRAGRANCE? Order unscented.

Price: .00-8oz, .00-16oz

When these products first arrived, I noticed right away the liquid consistency of the Hair n Body Wash, it kind of threw me, so I emailed Aminah, asking if perhaps it was actually the Hair n Body Oil. She promptly responded by explaining that it was a castile (oil) based shampoo, which is why it is in liquid form. This was new to me, I had never used a liquid/castile shampoo or body wash before. D and I love the scent, Aminah sent us the Lavender formula. When it was time for
D’s weekly shampoo we tried this out! I saturated her hair with water, then poured about a nickle size amount of the hair n body wash into my hand, rubbed my hands together and applied it to her hair. It doesn’t have much of a lather, but that doesn’t bother me, it seems to clean her scalp, is not drying and surprisingly does not leave her hair feeling oily. I also use this as a body wash for D and myself, it leaves our skin so soft and moisturized with no oily/greasey feeling.

After rinsing, condtioning, moisturizing and detangling, I began styling with the Hair N Body Pomade. I did some flat twists and this pomade held them nicely for 4 days, which isn’t bad considering her hair type. I put the back of her hair in braids for a braidout, I also applied a small amount of the pomade to each braid.

I loved the braidout results:

She had spent the night with her grandma, so for 2 days nothing was done to her hair, no detangling/moisturizing, nothing (even though I sent all those things), this is a before she left/after she came back comparison photo:

I didn’t think it looked too bad, considering there hadn’t been anything done to it in 2 days. All the twists still looked great. One of the rubber bands had even popped off at some point, but the twist stayed intact!

We were sent a pomade in the Lemongrass scent. It was a strong lemon smell, which is actually a good scent for us during the summer, it repells insects! I will be using this alot for her styles this summer, it has great hold and will help keep bugs away from her! This product can also be used to moisturize the skin, while I was styling her hair I added a little dab to the back of my hands, they stay dry because I wash my hands so frequently. It really provided some much need hydration to the real dry areas around my nuckles. I love multi-purpose products!

I used the Hair Wash to wash her hair during the 2 weeks she had little box braids in, it was perfect, it rinses clean, so I wasn’t worried about any shampoo being left behind in her braids.

Her braids still soaked from just being washed:

Saturday’s “Shappin” Hairstyle: Triangle Flat Twists and 2 Strand Hanging Twists

This Saturday’s style was the only style from our recent SheaMoisture products reveiw that hadn’t been shown on our “Shappin” Style section, so I wanted to get it up.

This one was a first for me, as I had never parted triangle sections for flat rolling twists before. I started out parting the triangle in the center, then twisted the hair and made 2 more triangle twists, one on each side of the first.  With the hair that was remaining on the sides I did 2 strand hanging twists. As I always do, I had soaked the rubber bands used to secure the twists in olive oil prior to styling. I also added some of the cute butterfly clips I received from Once Upon a Curl. For the hanging twists I added some jumbo beads on the ends, those were also from Once Upon a Curl.

(Sometimes when it comes to photos and kiddos…you take what you can get, lol)

That wraps up this week’s shappin’ style, hope you all enjoyed it and found it inspirational.

SheaMoisture Review

See the “how to” for this style
I, of course, got these products from Walgreen’s during their ‘buy one get one’ sale in March. I purchased one of the Moisture Retention Shampoo, one Hold & Shine Moisture Mist, one Curl & Style Milk, one Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and two of the Deep Treatment Masques.
See the “how to” for this style

Loving the curls, still a residual feeling, twists didn’t last long:

Here is the Curlformers set we did using the smoothie, they looked nice and didn’t have the “residue” feel, but we only got one day out these curls:

Kinky Curly Review

This “shappin” style was created using Kinky-Curly Curling Custard along with Kinky Curly Come Clean shampoo and Knot Today leave in. After I washed, detangled and moisturized I parted a square on top of her head where I created 5 rolling twists. The twists were a little stiff due to the Curling Custard, but they held for days! I braided the remaining sections of hair on each side into one braid a piece and I made four braids in the back, putting Curling Custard on each section before braiding. The next day before school I took the braids out for a really nice braid out,  we loved it!

Come Clean Shampoo – I really like the shampoo , it doesn’t dry her hair out, it gets rid of any build up and leaves her hair shiny and healthy looking.

Knot Today – I also really like this detangler, I’ve read mixed reviews about it, but it really works well for us. The tangles side right out with this and a wide tooth comb. It is not moisturizing but it is a good detangler.

Curling Custard – The texture of this product is just that, a custard feel, it doesn’t really bother me, although I do prefer creamy products. It smells great..like vanilla, possibly? It does make her hair a little crunchy especially when the hair first dries. After the first day we will spritz with a water/conditioner mix to revive her curls and they become softer and not as crunchy feeling. Her curls always look nice with this product and they stay looking good, they aren’t frizzed out by the days end.  I love to use this product for braid/twist outs. When I use it for braid outs and twist outs her hair is not crunchy, as long as I don’t get too much. The Curling Custard produces amazing braid outs and twist outs for us!

The company says use Kinky-Curly products in conjunction with each other and no other brands or products because it may cause undesirable effects. I still condition with HEHH (old formula) and moisturize with Bee Mine Dejas Hair Milk and it doesn’t seem to create any problems.

This is Ds hair after being washed, conditioned, detangled,  moisturized, and having the Curling Custard raked through her hair.

Her hair is still very wet:

It is still damp at this point:

Here it is completely dry:

Saturdays “Shappin” Hairstyle: “V” Shaped Rolling Twists

This weeks “shappin” style is the “V” shaped rolling twists.

How I got this look:

After washing, detangling and moisturizing, I parted her hair from ear to ear and tied off the back section to keep it out of the way. I parted the front section down the middle, then parted out a small “V”, this made two little sections (one on each side of the middle part). I sprayed on our oil mix, rubbed it into her hair and scalp, then added some Bee Mine Curly Butter and began the rolling twist. Once I was done I secured it with an elastic band that had been previously soaked in extra virgin olive oil. I continued doing this until I until I was done with the entire front section. I let the back down and she wore a headband.

I switched it up with a ponytail and a bow.

This style lasted 5 days!
