Coconut Oil For Your Skin: Recipe EBook Review and Giveaway

Natural coconut walnut oil

You all know I use natural hair care products on D’s hair and that I have dabbled a little bit in making my own concoctions here and there with our essential oils for hair care and natural remedies for eczema. But I recently got the chance to read “Coconut Oil For Your Skin” by Jennifer of Hybrid Rasta Mama.  This ebook is full of awesome recipes for hair and skin. It provides a nice introduction to carrier oils and which ones are best for the various skin types. She also breaks down the physical and emotional benefits of each essential oil. Of course there are many awesome recipes in the book that I can’t wait to try more of. So, why is coconut oil incorporated in each recipe? Jennifer says:

Coconut Oil is the perfect carrier oil to use when making personal care products and toiletries. This is because coconut oil is:

  • anti-bacterial
  • anti-fungal
  • anti-inflammatory
  • anti-microbial/Infection Fighting
  • an antioxidant
  • anti-viral

This book provides recipes for:

  • Personal Hygiene Products
  • Bath Products
  • Shampoos
  • Conditioners
  • Hair Oil Treatments
  • Scalp Treatments
  • Skin Care
  • Facial Scrubs, Masks, Creams and Cleansers
  • Lip Balm Making 101

and much more.

There are 40 recipes in this ebook, all of which include coconut oil which is known for its holistic healing properties. Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Review and #Giveaway, ends Nov 1

It is no secret that we love coconut oil in our household. We use it on hair, skin and of course for cooking. Tropical Traditions is a great source for coconut oil, information on coconut oil and many other organic foods and natural products. I got the opportunity to try their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil. The process they use to get the coconut oil is very interesting, it is extracted by grating the fresh coconut, extracting the coconut milk, and then letting the coconut milk stand in a covered container for about 24 hours. After about 24 hours, the oil naturally separates from the water producing a crystal clear oil that retains the full scent and taste of coconuts. Watch the video below to learn more about the coconut oil extraction process:

Some of our favorite uses for coconut oil in the kitchen are for baking, it gives the cookies a much better flavor than vegetable or olive oil does. We eat it on toast and I use it in the baby food I make for my son. The Tropical Traditions Gold Label coconut oil truly does have the flavor of coconut! You can find many free recipes at the Tropical Traditions Free Coconut recipe blog.

We also love using coconut oil on our hair and skin. It provides a great barrier (seal) and helps hold in moisture, hydrate, heal and protect the hair and skin.. I have been using coconut oil on D’s hair for about 6 months now. I use it on her skin as well as mine and my son’s. It was a great natural aid in the remedy of my son’s eczema flare ups.

You can purchase a 32 oz jar of Gold Label Coconut Oil on the Tropical Traditions website, along with many other natural skin care products, organic foods and household items!

Natural Remedy for Eczema

When Baby Boy was just an infant he had some eczema patches on his face, they itched him terribly and he would scratch his face to the point of making it bleed. Sad smile
Since, he was so tiny I was hesitant to use anything on his sensitive face, I just tried to keep it washed and clean with a warm wet wash cloth, at that age all I used to bathe him with was water. Here is a photo of him that shows the irritated skin on his face. He was just 3 weeks old in this photo:
