Pantene Truly Natural Review

If you’ve been around the hair care world at all you are probably familiar with the term “PJ” or “product junkie”. A product junkie is one who, even though they have their favorites and staple products, can’t help but try new products occasionally out of curiosity. When I heard about Pantene’s Truly Natural line I was curious and had to give it a try! (Yes, I am a self proclaimed Product Junkie).

Pantene Truly Natural Review

There are 5 products in the Pantene Truly Natural Collection:

    • Clarifying Shampoo
    • Deep Conditioner
    • Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner
    • Defining Curls Custards
    • Shine Serum with Argan Oil

The shampoo in this series is thick and creamy, I was pleasantly surprised by its texture and ability to cleanse without stripping the hair. It does contain sulfates, but didn’t seem to dry her hair out. Overall I like this shampoo, but plan to err on the side of caution and only use it once a month or so for clarifying. Both conditioners are thick, creamy and silky in texture, they are decent conditioners both with a little slip, I do prefer those with a little more slip for an easier detangling process. The defining custard is also thick and creamy in texture, I used this product for a wash n go on D and had good results (photo’s below). The product defined her curls and left them soft and bouncy…none of that stiff and sticky feeling that we dislike so much. There was an itsy bit of frizz, but it happens. The serum I actually tried on mine and D’s hair and well..it is mine now. I love it. It leaves my hair so soft, silky and shiny but not oily and greasy. I love that it is thicker than just plain argan oil, so it doesn’t drip or run as easily.¬† I do prefer to use just straight argan oil in D’s hair though, another reason I jacked the serum for myself. With a fresh clean scent, these products smell great… D says they smell like flowers (and she loves flowers!).

On to the results and photo’s (if you’d like to see a photo of D’s natural hair with no product in it for comparison click here) …

I washed D’s hair using the Pantene Truly Natural Clarifying Shampoo, I decided to try out the Co-wash condish as well, then followed with the Truly Natural deep conditioner. I used my fingers and a wide tooth shower comb to detangle her hair in the shower. Once she was out I added some of our usual moisturizer, I followed that up with the Truly Natural Shine Serum, then proceeded to rake the Defining Curls Custard through her hair with my fingers.

Pantene Natural lineI let her hair completely air dry:

I pulled her hair onto a loose bun and covered in with her satin sleep bonnet. The next morning I took it down and here are the results:

Pantene Naturals

Overall, I found the line ok, I do prefer to use products with more natural ingredients. They do contain coconut oil and argan oil, which I love and conveniently the Pantene Truly Natural line is readily available at Wal-Mart and other local retail stores with products in the natural series starting at $4.99…not bad at all.
