Mother, Wife, Business Woman and Blogger: Doing It All

I usually don’t get too personal on this blog, but when a recent questions was posed to me, I felt like sharing it with you all. I was recently asked "You are so together, how do you do it all? What’s your secret". These questions are in reference to me being a mother, wife, business woman and blogger. The simple answer is: I don’t. The truth is I may look like I have it all together, but I don’t. My to-do list is a mile long and growing. My house is rarely spotless. And I still have a lot of goals I’d like to achieve with my business and my blogs. I fee like there are never enough hours in the day and not enough time to spend with my loved ones. I have learned a few things along the way that have helped me find a little bit of a balance in all of the craziness of raising kids, maintaining a household, working online from home and most recently going back to work outside the home.

Keeping it together

Tips for keeping it together:

-Stay focused on the task at hand. I’ve found that multitasking is not always so efficient . There were times when I would have 2 or 3 blog posts pulled up, writing them, editing photos for each one, emailing businesses, engaging on various social media platforms, etc…not a good idea. Tackle one thing at a time, so you don’t get distracted and end up working all day only to feel like you didn’t accomplish anything. I, personally, know how hard it can be to stay focused on something when there is a 2 year old running around, needing a drink, a diaper change, or a cuddle (I mean who can resist a toddler cuddle?), but knocking out one household chore or work-related task at a time can get more things done.
-Don’t be afraid to ask for help sometimes. My oldest child, D, has chores. The hubby and I take turns cooking and cleaning up the kitchen. And lets face it sometimes we all need a break, this is when I send the kids to grandma’s, they love going and she loves having them, I am very blessed with a mother who helps me out with my kids and let’s them spend the occasional weekend at her house when I am feeling overwhelmed with all the things that need to be done.
-Remember what is truly important. 10 years from now is it really going to matter that you responded to that email right away or that you folded the laundry as soon as the dryer buzzed? What about if you sat down and read your child their favorite story, would that matter in 10 years? Family. If you never make time for them, what’s the point?
-Take time for yourself. Even if it is just a few minutes here and there, you need "me time" to rejuvenate.

terrible twos

I don’t have a picture perfect life, if there is such a thing. My kids aren’t perfect angels all the time (see above photo). And while I would never want my life to be filmed for the world to see like Tia and Tamera’s reality show (which is starting soon, but more about that later on in the post), I love my life and I feel truly blessed, through the ups and downs, the trials and tribulations, it is what it is and I have my family by my side.

they love each other2

Taking a peak into the lives of other real moms has helped me realize that nothing is completely perfect all of the time and sometimes it helps to watch and be reminded of that. Tia and Tamera are mom’s, wives and business women themselves, who don’t always have it all together. So, if you need a reminder that you aren’t the only one tune in to Season 3 of Tia and Tamera, it starts this Sunday, July 14th at 8/7C on Style.

    I LOVE Tia and Tamara!!!

  2. This post is a thing of rare beauty. You are incredible! I have never been a mother of young children, so I can not begin to imagine the level of distraction you must experience with working at home and child rearing your gorgeous children. You are a blessed woman indeed.

This subject arose with my dear friend over tea yesterday. She is becoming overwhelmed and has few outlets. I feel for how hard women have to work now, and with a new job OUTSIDE the home, it would be understandable if your schedule has to give somewhere! You can only give out so many apples until your basket is empty and you have to refill it!

It’s hard to remember to take time for yourself – thanks for including that on your list!

  4. Your daughter has great hair

These are some great tips! I struggle to keep it all together daily but remembering that I don’t have to be perfect is huge for me!

As moms, I don’t think any of us actually have it all together but we just keep doing what works for us and our families. As I prepare for baby #5 to arrive in the next few weeks, I know that our whole world is going to change and right now I’m just trying to go with the flow and keep things as normal as possible for everyone. I know I certainly don’t have it all together and that I have A LOT of work to get done before the little dude arrives!

It’s so hard to do it all, but it sounds like you’ve got some great ways to stay focused. Looking forward to this show to start.

Great post! I totally agree with your big 4!!! Wearing so many hats can be hard, but it is doable!

  9. Girl I so felt you throughout this entire post. I know it is sponsored but it truly seemed to come from your heart. I loved it. Especially this statement: “I’ve found that multitasking is not always so efficient . ”

It’s hard to stay focused but you have to keep bringing yourself back to the task at hand. I find that when I’m writing in bed that’s the worst. I will watch tv, play with my son and multi-task away! When I sit in the kitchen, there’s nothing to distract me. Not even food (surprise :-))

Great article.and your kids are too perfect angels! :-)

Everything u said is so true. One thing I forget to do is take time out for myself. Lately I need it. You are an amazing person and it takes a special person to do all the things you do. Stay blessed!
