Natural Make Up: Mia Mariu Mineral Cosmetics Review

natural make up liquid foundation

I used to have problems wearing liquid foundations, inevitably they would all cause break outs. I stopped wearing it for a while and just stuck to mineral powders, until I found Mia Maria Mineral Cosmetics. They are a line natural make up, including liquid foundation. With my dry skin, I really need a liquid foundation, the powders can make my already dry skin even more dry. Needless to say I was so happy to find a liquid foundation with natural ingredients that agreed with my skin. Their Perfecting Finish Mineral Liquid Foundation provides decent coverage and doesn’t dry or break my skin out further.

Eye Make Up

I love neutral shades of brown on my eyes. Their mineral eye shadow goes on smooth and has a nice shimmer. Their Multipurpose Brush No. 15 is allows eye shadow to be evenly applied, creates a natural crease and works well to blend shades.

In the photo below I applied their Loose Mineral Shadow Liner in Caramelo all over using the Multipurpose Eye Shadow Brush No. 15, I added a darker shade of brown in the crease and highlighted the brow bone with a white shimmer. I love the light shimmer of the Caramelo and I found that it was super easy for me to create this look and blend the shades with the eye shadow brush. Usually I have trouble with my eye make up and it never turns out as I envision it, but this brush has helped me out a lot.

Overall I am very pleased with my items from Mia Mariu and would recommend them to anyone looking into mineral cosmetics.

True Natural Sunscreens and Self Tanner

natural sunscreen reviews

While sunscreen is important year round, to help prevent sunburn and decrease the risk of cancer, it is a must for these long days spent at the pool, lake or beach. True Natural has an excellent line of natural sunscreens and even a natural sunless tanning lotion. These lotions are 100% mineral based and provide, broad spectrum UV protection. Their formula is all natural & biodegradable and contains no synthetic ingredients/chemicals. The unscented formula for babies and sensitive skin is given a rating of 1 (0 being the lowest 10 being the highest) from EWG’s Cosmetic Safety Database in their 2012 Sunscreen Report. The texture of theses lotions make for a quick & easy application, which is nice when you have little ones who are always on the go and don’t want to wait to be slathered in sunscreen.

All Natural Anti Aging Self Tanner

Use:
Per the direction on the bottle I exfoliated my skin with a sugar scrub and applied the self tanning lotion in a light sweeping motion. I noticed the different with in just a few hours. According to the bottle typically the tanned effect visible within 3-4 hours. Tan can be built up to achieve desired intensity. As you can see it totally knocked the stark white paleness from my legs, I really love this stuff. I use it on my face and neck as well with no skin problems. I enjoy the citrus scent it has, it doesn’t have the usual smell of a sunless tanning lotion…a scent that I despise. I really love this sunless tanner, I have been using it for about 3 weeks, since I don’t want a super dark looking tan, I reapply when my color starts to fade which is about every 3 days or so just to keep the paleness away. Here are some before and after shots:

Before Use:                                         After 1 use:

How does it work?
The combination of naturally occurring sugars found in certain fruits and vegetables are used in our The True Natural Self Tanner. The sugars react with amino acids found in the outer layer of the skin, creating a nontoxic reaction which gives skin a tanned look. Pretty cool, huh? This self tanner is also the first and only USDA 100% Certified Bio-based self tanner on the market!

Waxelene Safe and Natural Alternative to Petroleum Jelly

logo

I don’t know how many times in the past 2 years I have wished for a product similar to Vaseline that was safe and didn’t contain petroleum products…too many to count, that is for sure. I used to use petroleum jelly as an eye make up remover, lip balm, around my hair line when dying my hair to prevent staining my skin, as a skin protectant for myself and my daughter and for many other things. This was all before I knew of the harmful health effects petroleum products have on us. I was so glad to learn about a safe and natural alternative, Waxelene, which is made from Organic Soy Oil, Beeswax, Organic Rosemary Oil, and Natural Vitamin E (from soybeans)…that’s it, no petroleum or artificial ingredients.

waxelene

This product is an awesome replacement and it works just like Vaseline. Well, with one exception, Waxelene actually moisturizes, it doesn’t just hold existing moisture in (and/or out) like Vaseline does, so when I put it on my lips it is truly hydrating them. It’s great for dry skin and those especially rough spots. It also provides that good water-proof barrier when needed to protect skin from irritation. And the best part…I can use it on my babies without worry!

Waxlelene can be purchase online in 2oz ($6.99) and 9oz ($15.99) jars. If you are looking for a safe alternative to petroleum jelly, I recommend this! Waxelene is also on Facebook and Twitter.

Simply Bath Salts Review and Giveaway

simply bath salts review

Bath salts that are infused with essential oils can add a nice therapeutic touch to a relaxing bath. Simply Bath Salts is a blend of Atlantic sea salt, Epsom salt and salts from the Dead Sea, organic essential oils, and organic jojoba oil. Simply Bath Salts contain essential minerals and all ingredients are high grade and contain no diluents, chemicals, and pesticides. These bath salts are blended and hand packaged once they are ordered, they’re highly customizable when it comes to scents and oil blends. The company will create your choice of blend at no extra charge. I am really loving this company and their salts. I received the Lavender scented bath salts, they have such a nice, fresh and relaxing aroma. D uses these salts in her bath every night, they really help soothe and calm her and get her settled for bed. Normally, I take showers, but a nice, hot bath sure is fabulous and worth taking the time for occasionally. I recommend checking out their list of scents and finding one you would enjoy because these bath salts are really nice. [Read more…]

How To Use Almond Oil For Beautiful Skin

How To Use Almond Oil For Beautiful Skin

Almond Oil Beautiful Skin

Almond oil (also known as Sweet Almond Oil) is a light yellow, highly-lubricant oil used as a carrier oil in aromatherapy and massage, as well as being added to cosmetic products such as soaps, moisturizers, hair conditioners, and wrinkle creams.  An excellent lubricant, it is a favorite base oil for massage, used alone or in blends with other carrier oils and/or essential oils.

WARNING: If you’re allergic to almonds or other tree nuts, you should not use almond oil, since it can cause severe reactions in sensitive individuals.

Do not confuse almond oil with bitter almond essential oil. Bitter almonds are the source of the poison cyanide, and according to The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils by Julia Lawless, bitter almond essential oil “should not be used in therapy, either internally or externally.”

Almond Oil For The Skin

Almond oil is good for all skin types, since it moisturizes well but is light enough not to make oily or combination skin feel greasy. It relieves itching, irritation, and inflammation; softens, soothes, and helps to restore moisture to dry skin; and helps repair dry, flaky, or cracked skin on knees, elbows, or heels. Pure almond oil goes rancid quickly, so it should be used as soon as possible, or used in blends with an antioxidant oil such as vitamin E to help preserve it.

Wrinkles – used at night after cleansing the face, a light coating of almond oil will reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, as well as helping to tighten the skin

Under-eye circles – a few drops of almond oil mixed with a few drops of raw honey and gently applied to dark under-eye circles at night will reduce puffiness and lighten them. The skin under your eyes stretches easily, so be VERY gentle when applying this.

Psoriasis and Eczema – because of its ability to relieve itching, inflammation, and irritation; almond oil is an excellent base for psoriasis and eczema aromatherapy treatments. Two tablespoons of almond oil mixed with 2 drops of vitamin E oil, 5 drops of German Chamomile essential oil, and 5 drops of true Lavender essential oil; applied several times a day; will ease the symptoms and help heal the ugly, cracked skin that comes with these annoying skin problems.

Exfoliating the skin – almond oil is one of the best base oils for sugar scrubs for the face and body. For a simple, easy to make sugar scrub, mix 1/2 cup of fine sugar with 1 to 2 tablespoons of almond oil. Apply to your skin (preferably while in the tub or shower, since this is a messy process,) and rub until the skin feels smooth. (If using this on the face, be careful not to stretch the skin while rubbing, and stay away from the delicate skin around your eyes.) Follow with a bath or shower to remove all remaining traces of the sugar. Most of us know about the benefits of almond oil for hair, but this incredible oil also has a fantastic ability to help repair, revitalize and rejuvenate dry and damaged skin to help you look and feel gorgeous all the time. Try it for yourself and let us know how it works for you.

What’s in Your Cosmetics: Eve Organics Mineral Makeup Review

This hair journey of ours started with me being tired of only knowing how to do 2 or 3 simple styles, I got online to search for hairstyles for kids with kinky curly hair. From that search I also learned much more than just styles, I found information on ingredients and products…and discovered that the products I was using on my daughters hair were not good her or her tresses. From there, I learned how to read ingredient labels and which ingredients to stay away from. I also found that many of those ingredients are not just in certain hair products, but there are also many harmful ingredients in soaps, bubble baths, make-up, lotions, cleaners and many other household products. This knowledge has prompted my search for natural products and quest for a greener lifestyle. [Read more…]
