Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Hair Treatment Review

Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil Hair Treatment from Tropical Traditions has been an amazing treatment for D’s hair. Just this past week, after I washed, conditioned, and detangled D’s hair, I added some Bee Mine Luscious moisturizer then sealed with the Gold Label Coconut Oil Hair Treatment, I banded her hair in 4 sections to prepare it for styling the next evening. The next morning I took the 4 banded sections down and did 2 banded ponytails, I needed her hair to stay as stretched and untangled as possible because that evening I was going to straighten her hair. Her hair was extremely soft and moisturized and I felt it was going to be protected from the heat of the flat iron by the coconut oil treatment.

It’s Perfectly Natural Product Review

IPN

D and I have been trying out a new line of products, called

IPNline, the creator of the line, Denise (you can read about her natural hair care journey dealing with relaxers and hair loss), supplied us with her line of products to use and review. Here is what we got:

IPNline

SDC17785
SDC17794
SDC17795
Root Food: Temple/Hairline Spot Treatment
Scalp Revival: Healthy Scalp and Growth Oil
Organic Black Tea Mega Spritz

We started off with the Replenish pre-wash treatment, I sprayed her hair with water to the point that it was damp, I then applied Replenish to her hair in sections. I covered it with a plastic cap and left it on for about 20 minutes.

SDC17561

I washed with our usual Bee Mine Moisturizing Botanical Shampoo and Conditioned with the Bee Mine Avocado Cream. Once she was out of the shower I applied the Scalp Revival Oil, which smells like peppermint lavender,  to her scalp. I proceeded to use the Turn Me Loose Detangler/Leave In and added the Splendid Hair and Body Oil to seal.

Still damp:

SDC17785

Here it is once it had completely dried, I love the curls and that there wasn’t much shrinkage. Her hair was soft, no stiffness here.

SDC17794

SDC17795

SDC17800

I have been applying the root food to her temples and hairline to see if we can’t get her hair to thicken up in those areas. I will keep you all posted on that.

I have used the leave in on myself, it is light enough that I can, and I also use and love the Black Tea Mega Spritz, it makes my hair so soft and shiny and it smells so good. It has a strong natural aroma that fades once it is applied…the scent lingers though and I can catch a whiff as I turn my head and I love it!

SDC17597

Overall I love this line. We recently went on vacation, since I couldn’t pack up the entire bathroom full of products I limited our selection to the It’s Perfectly Natural Leave and Hair and Body Oil. I also took along some Aussie Moist conditioner and our Belle Butters Double Agent Butter. I had to co-wash a couple times because she spent some time in the indoor pool. This combo worked out great, I would detangle with the leave in, apply some of the butter and use the oil over that, her hair stayed manageable and super soft!

Please check out It’s Perfectly Natural on the web:

You can also enter to win a set of these products during the Winter Wonderland Event, going on now until Dec 6. Enter to win the It’s Perfectly Natural products sample set as a part of of the WW grand prize!!

Natural Hair & Product Journey: Bee Mine Deja’s Hair Milk Review and Discount

Last month marked our one year “Bee Mine-iversay“…we discovered their amazing natural products in October of 2010 and have been using them ever since!

Before we discovered natural products, D’s poor hair was lacking the moisture and hydration it needed. The retail store-bought products we were using contained mineral oil and petroleum, which can make the hair shiny, so it may appear to be hydrated and healthy, but there is no true nutrients in petroleum-based products. Once I realized this and read studies linking petroleum and mineral oil to cancer, I threw out all of D’s hair products that contained those ingredients!
For the longest time D’s hair seemed to be stuck at shoulder length…it would grow a bit, but then it was time to trim the dead/split ends….it was a vicious cycle. Below is a photo of her hair lengths from the past 3 years, the first photo was taken in November of 2009, the second in October 2010 and the third was taken September 2011.
So, you can see a substantial amount of growth in the past year vs. the year before that. Like it has been said many times “the growth don’t lie”.

One of the first products from the Bee Mine line that we tried was their Deja’s Hair Milk.

 Product Description:

Bee Mine

This hair milk has many benefits for the health and condition of your hair.  It’s lightweight but very moisturizing.  The oils and butters will nourish and naturally moisturize every strand of your tresses without leaving your hair greasy.  The grapefruit essential oil strengthens and keeps your hair healthy while the peppermint essential oil helps to stimulate growth.  Good for all hair types, braids and weaves too.  We aim to help your hair be the healthiest it can be.

Price: 2oz $5, 8oz $15, 16oz $27
Use Deja’s Hair Milk to:  defrizz, moisturize on damp hair, as a second day refresher, detangler or leave in.
INGREDIENTS:  Distilled water, Coconut milk, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil), Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Seed Oil), Butyrosperumum Parkir (Shea Butter), Emulsifying wax, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa Butter), Vitis vinifera (Grapeseed Oil), Ricinus communis (Organic Castor Oil), Grapefruit & Peppermint Essential Oils, Vitamin E, Panthenol (Vitamin B Complex), Optiphen (Paraben free and Formaldehyde free preservative), Fragrance.

99% Natural & Organic
Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk

The claims are true…this is a great light moisturizer/leave in and detangler….and it doesn’t take much, a little bit goes a loooong way, so it is well worth the price to get a great hair product that will last. An 8oz bottle easily lasted us 6 months.

You can purchase Bee Mine Products on the web and use coupon code UTHM12HOT, (this code is valid for the Summer/Fall 2012, after that please check the sidebar for updated codes) to get 10% off your purchase of $15 or more! They’ve got trial sizes available if you want to give them a test run!

Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Review and #Giveaway, ends Nov 1

It is no secret that we love coconut oil in our household. We use it on hair, skin and of course for cooking. Tropical Traditions is a great source for coconut oil, information on coconut oil and many other organic foods and natural products. I got the opportunity to try their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil. The process they use to get the coconut oil is very interesting, it is extracted by grating the fresh coconut, extracting the coconut milk, and then letting the coconut milk stand in a covered container for about 24 hours. After about 24 hours, the oil naturally separates from the water producing a crystal clear oil that retains the full scent and taste of coconuts. Watch the video below to learn more about the coconut oil extraction process:

Some of our favorite uses for coconut oil in the kitchen are for baking, it gives the cookies a much better flavor than vegetable or olive oil does. We eat it on toast and I use it in the baby food I make for my son. The Tropical Traditions Gold Label coconut oil truly does have the flavor of coconut! You can find many free recipes at the Tropical Traditions Free Coconut recipe blog.

We also love using coconut oil on our hair and skin. It provides a great barrier (seal) and helps hold in moisture, hydrate, heal and protect the hair and skin.. I have been using coconut oil on D’s hair for about 6 months now. I use it on her skin as well as mine and my son’s. It was a great natural aid in the remedy of my son’s eczema flare ups.

You can purchase a 32 oz jar of Gold Label Coconut Oil on the Tropical Traditions website, along with many other natural skin care products, organic foods and household items!

Bee Mine Avocado Cream Balanced Conditioner

“Mmmm…that smells like creamy, cream pie.” Those were the words out of D’s mouth the first time I applied this conditioner to her hair. And she is right, it smells like coconut cream pie, it is wonderful! This is one of the best conditioners we have used. I pretty much thoroughly finger detangle her hair in the shower with the Bee Mine Avocado Cream Balanced conditioner then follow with a wide tooth comb. It has kept her hair soft and hydrated during these summer months after spending a lot of time in the sun and pool.
