Natural Make Up: Mia Mariu Mineral Cosmetics Review

November 27, 2012 By Brooke 1 Comment

natural make up liquid foundation

I used to have problems wearing liquid foundations, inevitably they would all cause break outs. I stopped wearing it for a while and just stuck to mineral powders, until I found Mia Maria Mineral Cosmetics. They are a line natural make up, including liquid foundation. With my dry skin, I really need a liquid foundation, the powders can make my already dry skin even more dry. Needless to say I was so happy to find a liquid foundation with natural ingredients that agreed with my skin. Their Perfecting Finish Mineral Liquid Foundation provides decent coverage and doesn’t dry or break my skin out further.
Price: $25.00

Eye Make Up

I love neutral shades of brown on my eyes. Their mineral eye shadow goes on smooth and has a nice shimmer. Their Multipurpose Brush No. 15 is allows eye shadow to be evenly applied, creates a natural crease and works well to blend shades.
Loose Mineral Shadow Liner Price:$14.00
Brush Price:$20.00

In the photo below I applied their Loose Mineral Shadow Liner in Caramelo all over using the Multipurpose Eye Shadow Brush No. 15, I added a darker shade of brown in the crease and highlighted the brow bone with a white shimmer. I love the light shimmer of the Caramelo and I found that it was super easy for me to create this look and blend the shades with the eye shadow brush. Usually I have trouble with my eye make up and it never turns out as I envision it, but this brush has helped me out a lot.

Overall I am very pleased with my items from Mia Mariu and would recommend them to anyone looking into mineral cosmetics.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Back to School Savings: Hair Products, Accessories, Clothes and More

August 2, 2012 By Brooke Leave a Comment

I mentioned on our Facebook page that D is starting school next week… NEXT WEEK… it snuck up on me. How could it be time already?! I remember at the end of this past school year everyone being so surprised that we was out of school so early, well this is why, she starts back so early! I wanted to share some ongoing discounts and specials for the back to school savings, mainly for clothes, accessories and hair products! Got to have our babies looking right without breaking the bank.Clothing and Accessories
I’ve been doing some online school clothes shopping, my favorite site to get cute clothes at discounted prices is Zulily, I’ve shared this on Facebook before, but wanted to post about it here, too. I know that back to school shopping can get expensive especially with multiple children, so I wanted to share and hopefully help my readers save some money! The best part about Zulily, aside from their adorable clothes and accessories at affordable prices, is that you can invite friends to join and when they make their first purchase you are credited with $20 to use on your next purchase on Zulily. I want to invite you all sign up, save money and earn credits!

Hair Products
You may have noticed that we have a new Bee Mine banner and discount code in the sidebar. Stock up on Bee Mine Products for the school year receiving 10% off your order using our special reader code UTHM12HOT. Bee Mine now has flat rate shipping to help lessen the shipment costs, I know that has been an issue with a lot a people, so you can save on shipping and on the products now!!! Don’t know what products to get? Want to try them all? Read our Bee Mine Reviews to see what we’ve tried and love and consider trying out their products by ordering the trial sizes first. Order at www.beemineproducts.com

And here’s to a great school year! I hope all the kids (and parents) have a great one! When do your kids start school?

Cornrow Mohawk with Morrocco Method Styling Products

July 23, 2012 By Brooke 4 Comments

cornrow mohawk

This is my second, ever, attempt at a cornrow mohawk or faux hawk hairstyle. D had swimming camp and I wanted something that was going to withstand the daily dips in the pool, and rinses and/or washes throughout the week and I thought a pomade would be best for this. So, I used this opportunity to use some new styling  pomades we’d recently received from the Morrocco Methods natural hair care line.

Our gentile pomade blend actually smoothes and conditions hair while providing that sought after texture and shine

Defining Styling Cream:          Extreme Support Pomade:

natural styling pomades

Styling Dragon Pomade: Defining Styling Cream
Ingredients: Aqua(Water), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Beeswax, Lecithin,Glycerin, Borax, Bacopa Monniera (Brahmi Oil), Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot Kernel Oil), Nardostachys Jatamansi (Spikenard Oil), Tocotrienols (Natural Vitamin E), SalixAlba (White Willow) Bark Extract
Price: $29.00, sale price $19.00 4oz

Spike-It Dragon Pomade: Extreme Support Pomade
Ingredients: Aqua(Water), Thea Sinensis Saponin (Green Tea), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Cera Alba (Beeswax), Lecithin, Glycerin, Borax, Jatropha Dioica (Blood of the Dragon), Algae (Sea Silk), Raw Honey, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Oil
Price: $29.00, sale price $15.00 4oz

Neither of these really have a scent, they are both natural unscented. Both products are thick, the Styling Pomade being more of a creamy pomade and the Spike-It Pomade being more of a solid waxy pomade. Below are photo comparisons to show the texture of each:

Cream:                 Pomade:

Cream:                      Pomade:
styling cream vs pomade

My first thought when I looked at the ingredients of these products was “how can these not be amazing?” There was a little part of me that feared the worst…what if her hair is dried out and feels like straw when I take her braids down…I won’t lie, that thought crossed my mind, but in my heart of hearts I knew it wasn’t going to be.

Cornrow Mohawk

I had washed and banded D’s hair the night before I did her cornrow mohawk, so when it was time to style I evenly distributed the styling cream throughout each section of her hair as I removed the bands. Starting in the front I began parting and braiding adding the pomade to each individual section of hair before I braided. When I finished, her hair looked really, really good…most of the credit going to the products and not my cornrowing abilities, lol.

Each say after swimming and rinsing I would moisturize with Bee Mine Hair Milk and spray with Morrorro Methods Styling Spritz Hair Spray for hold.
Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Whole Leaf Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis), Blood of the Dragon (Jatropha dioica), Marine Proteins of Sea Silk (Algae leaf extract), Kelp (Macrocystis purifera), Nori (Nori Algae), Kombu (Laminaria digitata) and Fucus (Fucus vesiculosis), Yucca (Yucca aloifolia), Cactus (Opuntia erinacea), Shea Butter (Vitellaria paradoxa), Enriched Volcanic Ash with natural plant-base Herbs and Spices, Orange Seed (Citrus sinensis), Pure Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis) Oil, Lemon (Citrus limon) Oil
Price: $19.00 16oz

This was Day 5, the style was still going strong after the week of swimming, it could have lasted longer but I was anxious to take her hair down to see how it felt and to give it a good washing after all that swimming.

I actually don’t have a photo for Day 2 and I apologize, but I did stretch out this wash and go for 3 days, the final day she rocked it in a ponytail with a Twirlyz

My thoughts:
This stuff just slid through her hair and made it feel like silk when I applied it…must be the silk powder in the ingredients, her curls were so soft, well defined and moisturized with little shrinkage.. I think the photo’s speak for themselves. If you missed it, check out yesterdays post using their Light Down and Out Styles. You can find Blended Beauty and Blended Cutie products on their website.

Wash and Go Series: Curls of the World Defining Gel

July 1, 2012 By Brooke 10 Comments
Email

This wash and go was done using Curls of the World Just the Flax Defining Gel. As with each wash and go shown in this series I washed, conditioned/detangled, then applied the product by raking my fingers through D’s hair in sections and let it air dry. The cornrows had been done on dry, stretched hair prior to the wash and go on the rest of her hair.

Ingredients: Flaxseed Gel, Aloe Vera Juice, Glycerin, Rosemary Oil, Rose Essential Oil, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Potassium Sorbate (a natural preservative)

Scent: Almost no scent, very light, kind of sweet natural scent

Texture: Thick liquid, non-sticky gel

Price: $10.99 8oz

My thoughts:
I was pleased with these results, her curls were soft and well defined. Most gel give a stiff hold, are sticky and somewhat gooey, but this gel is more of a thick liquid, not sticky at all and did not make the hair stiff. Her hair stayed well moisturized throughout the duration of the day and the frizz was, for the most part, kept to a minimum. What are your thoughts? Have you tried this product or any products from Curls of the World?

The next day she was able to rock a ponytail, there was still some great definition and her hair was super soft.

Don’t forget you can see her hair with no product in it for comparison of results.

My thoughts:
I love how the Bee Mine Curly Butter leaves her hair so incredibly soft and yet still does such a great job at defining her curls. There is obviously no stiffness or crunch to her curls with the Curly Butter. There are no flakes or residual product feel, just soft luscious curls. I love the coconut scent, it’s not too strong, but it lingers in the hair and I just love to smell of D’s hair when she has this product in it, lol and she loves her “Bee Products”, too…

Don’t forget the Bee Mine readers discount code, good for 10% off, just use UTHMSPRING when you are checking out on the Bee Mine Website!
